08:12:12 ANTIBIOTICS ERYTHROMYCINS
Erythromycin alone is not adequate for the treatment of H. influenzae infections. It lacks consistently reliable activity against this organism. Erythromycin is a potent inhibitor of hepatic oxidation of some drugs and may cause significant elevation of blood levels of astemizole, carbamazepine, cyclosporine, digoxin, dihydropyridines, terfenadine, theophylline and warfarin. Potentially fatal arrhythmias (torsade de pointes) can occur with the combination of erythromycin and astemizole or terfenadine.
